Lacrosse has centuries of tradition.
As one of America 's original sports, it has developed a time tested,
positive culture. One of its most important traditions that must
be carried out by players at all levels is showing respect. Respect
for yourself. Your teammates. Your coaches. Your opponents. The
officials. The rules. Respect for the game starts by recognizing
the effort needed to compete in lacrosse. Beyond lacrosse, respect
means recognizing the role the sport can play in your overall development.
The development should not focus solely on lacrosse but should
include school, other activities and friendships. Respect continues
on the field by supporting your teammates and giving them positive
constructive criticism, from which they can improve. Respect also
takes the form of listening to coaches. Compete hard against your
opponents, but respect them and the game by playing by the rules.
Recognizing the positive ways lacrosse has influenced all those
who play it is how you can carry on the sport's longstanding tradition
of respect.
